The Funny Side of Punctuality

Good morning and Happy Saturday! I just finished reading my Bible, and what a refreshing time it was – starting your day off in the Word. Before I read, I like to take in a few deep breaths – thank the Lord for His goodness and blessings, and then start reading.

This morning I read Leviticus 17. The book of Leviticus is interesting because it’s mostly about rules and regulations and about sacrifices and customs. Now back in biblical times, sacrificing animals was widely practiced and accepted in most of the societies – from the Israelites to the Greeks.

What’s interesting about the Jewish sideis that God was very specific about how and why the Israelites sacrificed to Him. Everything was laid out and there was no guess work – God had His standard and here’s what it is.

It’s interesting how some people believe that God is like some ambiguous being, that is sort of “out there”, you know, somewhere in the distance… does He know much about what’s going on in the world?

The Bible has an answer to that.

And Leviticus is one of the books that explores the specific nature of the Lord. The Old Testament is just a relevant as the New Testament, considering Jesus and every believer that wrote a book in the NT ALWAYS referenced the OT.

So check it out. Check out a Psalm or a Proverb, read some of the Gospels – the Bible is a goldmine of truth waiting to be explored!

The Funny Side of Punctuality

I titled this blog The Funny Side of Punctuality because there is a serious side as well. I request all of my students to be on time for class, and I start devotions every morning before class.

I remember an employer who once threatened to hit me in the head with a brick (albeit I was eating my lunch while sitting on a headstone in a cemetery – ironically what a convenient place to die by this threat). Working in a cemetery day after day may have made my work environment normalized; yet this same employer complimented me once when he said, “My god, Christian. When you say you’ll be here for eight (a.m.), you’re here for eight.”

So punctuality is key!

With that said – here is the funny (again) side.

Yesterday while in school, I was given a tray of cupcakes for my Jr. High students, as a little reward for making it through their end-of-year tests. Well, I was making my way down the hall at 1:15p.m. – which is the time when afternoon classes start. As I passed by the back entrance I saw half a dozen of my students coming in from outdoors. They knew they were going to be late – even though I was running a little late (due to the conversation about the cupcakes with another teacher) but I was going to get into the classroom first.

Since the school year is almost done, I decided to have a little fun. I was merely ten feet in front of them when they first came into the school, and we were all in the hall heading towards the classroom.

I heard the first female student say, “No, Mr. Eason!”

What then transpired was a fast-walk race down the hall, first to the classroom wins.

I kicked it into gear, three trays if cupcakes in hand and I walked as fast as possible without running, while a stream of students behind me also sped up, all calling out to me (one even tried to pass me – yet my 6’1 and firm build haha, keep them at bay!).

I made it to the classroom moments before them, and as they all walked in I jokingly (with a serious face of course) said, “Your late.”

Next student, “Your late.”

And rinse and repeat.

Most of them recalled a discussion from last week where I wasn’t joking at their lateness- but today, that was a funny day – worthy of a Youtube short or a funny comic strip.

Have a great day.

Christian
